On the road
Folks, Rita & I left Almonte bright and early, 6:30 am, Monday morning. Not without problems however. First off I could not get the garage door to close in the -10C weather, Brrrrrrrrrrrrr ! After frigin’ around with that and getting it working, packing up the rest of the food from our house fridge we jump in the Westy to get going and find the front heater blower motor has quit ! The van had been running for about 15 ~ 20 minutes while we were packing to get it warm and windshield de-iced and the blower WAS working then. But for some unknown reason so far it quit some time before we were ready to drive of. So, off we went anyways, and finally by the time we got to Carleton Place the windshield had cleared and van started to warm up. Yikes, hope this is not a sign of things to come. Well, all went well until we got past the boarder crossing, no problems there, and out onto the 81 towards Syracuse. Tried to turn on the cruise control which has always worked flawlessly. Not this time. So I still have not looked but probably has something to do with me working behind the fuse box last week getting new circuits set up for the LED lights I installed. Well, we’ll have a look down the road later on when it’s warmer. We got into my sister’s and Mom’ place in New Kensington around 7 pm, tired but no other problems. So here we are until Friday morning when we leave for points South. Hopefully we get to at least Memphis or further……….

So , now Frank, you know all about my internittent front heater blower problem. My theory is the resistor , previously cracked by I don’t know what, make or not make the contact depending if the temperature is too cold or too hot. the result is :the fan stop progressively or is not turning at all . Sometimes when i hit a bump or a hole on the road, the fan suddenly start full speed if the switch has been left to the “3, 2 or even 1 ” speed position.
Good luck with your cruise control and it is not a sign of a bad start. It just a common volkswagen story like your german garage door. Say hello to your fuse box from me…
N.B. Take pictures if you want us to laugh about it later in front of a corona…
Hope it is a simple fix, Frank, so you can relax and keep on truckin’
Thanks for blogging this as a group, it’s a comfort to those of us who couldn’t tag along.
