La Manzanilla Life

Resting & Relaxing in La Manzanilla. It’s very quiet here as most tourists have gone home. The weather has not cooperated either. March is normally the coldest month here we’re told but this year has now claimed and all time record for cold. Hardly anyone in the ocean swimming the last few weeks and the fishermen have practically stopped fishing as the water is too cold. The cold west winds off the ocean have prompted everyone to dig out their warm wear for beach walks. It sure looks odd ! We still enjoy it though over being back home shoveling the huge snow loads being dumped there. Global warming seems to be over ! Maybe we should have gone to Puerto Escondido – too late now !

La Manzanilla has been gearing up for the Easter parade of tourists and the cleaning up of the beach and town is ongoing. The new fountain at the triangle is complete and working. Probably the fastest Mexican project we’ve seen next to the bull ring ! Rita & Marianne have been helping out at the dog clinic which is over today. Some enterprising folks took it upon themselves a few years ago to spay & neuter the dogs and cats of La Manz in an effort to clean up the village of stray unfed dogs. It has worked wonders and this year they have done some 40 animals each day. There are 3 ~ 4 vets and vet assistants who have volunteered their time to this project and work from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm each day. Many other residents have come to volunteer to help also as did Rita, Marianne and myself.

Tomorrow we are off to Chamala for a few days of beach-side camping with Mike & Marianne and and a few other friends of theirs. Meanwhile enjoy the pics below, click on them to enlarge.
