Jonathan, Zamora-Jacona
We briefly made camp in the mixture of the cities Zamora and Jacona. This two night stay was all it took for out trip to live up to it’s name. We packed a lot of activity into our time in these nice cities and only abbreviated our stay so that we could get to beach more quickly.
Zamora and Jacona are mostly absent of tourists but the towns parks and plazas are full of locals. Downtown Zamora abounds with shopping opportunities, sidewalk entertainment, great architecture and people. I pedaled my bike through this area and had a great time seeing the sites while dodging traffic and negotiating the obstacles.
On Saturday afternoon we all got to use our camping showers for the first time on this trip and to see each other looking our best. The wedding was held in a cathedral so large that after more than two hundred years it is still under construction. The ceremony was part of a traditional Catholic mass and was mostly in Spanish. After the successful completion of the wedding we all took cabs back to Jacona where the reception was held. Although at first the reception seemed similar to a typical North American affair it soon became quite different. The large and loud band, Nuevo Generation, did a great job of keeping the majority of the hundreds of guest out on the dance-floor. Most of our group joined in the dancing from time to time but we found our skills to be inferior to the locals. After the many hours of being steadily entertained, fed and watered I made my way to the van for some sleep. It was close to two in the morning when I left and the party was as big and strong as ever and showing no signs of slowing.
