Jonathan, Zacatecas
Since Tuesday afternoon I have been in the wonderful city of Zacatecas. The visit has been wonderful in part because it is such a beautiful city. The visit has also been wonderful because of the friendly and interesting people that I have met here including Mark and Patricia who have gracefully been host to all of us as we have visited their home town.
Upon arrival we set up camp above the city at the scenic Hotel Del Bosque. From the hotel an easy downhill walk takes you into the heart of the city. Getting back up after the great meals and explorations though is much harder. At over 8000′ elevation it has been beneficial to find the gradual and winding routes back to the hotel. Through the week of wandering the town I have seen few tourists and few English speaking locals. Speaking very little Spanish has been difficult for me, but hopefully entertaining for the ones that have watched me point and wave as I throw out the few Spanish words that I know. Some of the highlights of the visit were dining at Mark and Patricia’s above the city lights, visiting the Museo De Pedro Coronel, watching a Subaru transplant and mountain biking the Cerro De La Bufa.
My first visit to a Mexican city has far exceeded any expectations and leaves me hoping that the remainder of our trip is half a pleasant.

Jonathan,
You write extremely well and have great pics. Your future career should be in travelogues. Keep it coming. Wish I was down there getting warm instead of wet and cold in the NW. PS – luv the beetle line-up pic.

Hi Jonathan,
It was a pleasure to spend time with you here in Zacatecas. I feel like we had many unfinished conversations.
I suspect that you have read THE HOBBIT. I thought of the following quote: “Bilboa was sadly reflecting that adventures are not all pony rides in May sunshine. . .”.
After listening to you and Hans discuss it, we rented THE PRINCESS BRIDE. I surely did not remember enough of it to understand why you like it, so decided to check it out. My curiosity does that kind of thing.
Good luck for the rest of your trip. We hope to see you again one day.
Abrazos,
Patricia
