Jonathan, Laredo to Nuevo Laredo

On December third the group that I am traveling with started out from Laredo Texas for Mexico. With nine people, one dog, a trailer full of Vanagon parts and a Subaru engine I was expecting the border crossing to be difficult. We crossed the Rio Grande at nine in the morning and thanks to our preparations, some resourcefulness and Nellie’s great Spanish we were all through customs before eleven. From customs we followed our police escort straight to the bank for pesos and for our first taste of the difficulties of moving as such a large group in Mexico. As soon as we got our cash we had to spend some so we headed for a Pemex station on the edge of town for gas and then we were off.
