Jonathan, First Departure

Slowly, like my old Volkswagen camper, my journey to Zamora has started. After all of the preparation, planning, hard work and the many goodbyes I departed Black Mountain NC and headed West in a heavily laden van. I now find myself planning and preparing for another departure within the week. This next departure will take me from Memphis TN and into the south . Outside of repacking the van for Mexico this final week of preparation will be laden with good eating and visits with family over the Thanksgiving holiday. While I am excited in anticipation of the coming months of travel and the new friends and experiences that await me in Mexico it is a very appropriate time for reflection and thanksgiving. Among the many reasons that I have to be thankful I am glad to find my family well and to have time to visit here and thankful for my many friends that I sadly leave behind for the winter. I should also mention how glad I am that my new Westy didn’t blow up under the strain of it’s first heavy use.

Happy thanksgiving everyone,

Jonathan

  2. I’ll only be bringing one to MX. It is too bad that I didn’t snap a shot from the front, you would have seen that the van was loaded top to bottom front to back… I even had the passenger seat loaded up. It might not be pretty but I am glad that I can move everything without renting a uhaul..

  3. Happy Thanksgiving, Jonathan! You must be packed in there & doing quite a round of the Westy shuffle :-) Your van looks good and you listed some great reasons to be thankful. Travel safely, and know other van owners are checking in!
