I had a similar situation with a traffic cop in Tuxpam a few days ago since I was in a fairly public place I played stupid when he kept telling me that I needed to give him 200 dollars or 2 mil pesos. Finally, after a lot of "no intiendo" and "dos dolores? Vente Pesos?" from me, I got rid of him with 200 pesos. What a shady scam those guys have going,, it seems to me that it hurts Mexico a lot when a few folks harass and scam tourists. Anyway I am glad nothing worse came of it.
